What is a power supply and what does it do?
A power supply is an electronic device that converts AC line power to one or more individual DC outputs.
What is the difference between “linear” and “switch mode” power supplies?
Linear supplies are larger due to the step-down transformer needed, and they typically have a 40-60% efficiency rating. Switch mode power supplies offer a smaller step-down transformer, which allows for a smaller and lighter power supply. Efficiency ratings for this technology are typically 75-90%.
Can power supplies be operated at frequencies other than 60Hz?
Yes, our DM Series power supplies can be operated at 50 – 60Hz.
Can a power supply be loaded according to its wattage rating alone?
No, each output on a power supply is rated for voltage and current. The power supply needs to be selected for each application according to the voltage and current requirements.
What is efficiency?
Efficiency is the ratio of the output power to the input power. It is generally measured at full load and nominal line conditions and expressed as a percentage.
Why does ACME offer three different versions of single phase power supplies?
In an effort to offer the desirable product for every application, ACME offers a standard metal DIN Rail product, a slimline metal DIN Rail product and an economical plastic DIN Rail product. Each product offers advantages that customers will want for their particular application. Please see the product brochure for a detailed description of each product.
What size DIN Rail is the DM Series designed to work with?
The DM Series is designed for use with 35mm DIN Rail.
Can the DM Series be connected in series?
Yes, but consult factory for details.
Can the DM Series be connected in parallel?
Yes, most of the DM Series models can be connected in parallel for redundancy.
How many wattages and voltages is the DM Series available in?
DM Series power supplies are available in a variety of wattages (15-960) and voltages (5-48).
What type of warranty is offered with the DM Series?
All metal units come with a five year warranty, and plastic units are backed by a three year warranty. |
